Context:

The Government’s vision to achieve a $5 trillion economy by 2024 entails investments worth INR 100 lakh crore in infrastructure sectors, including several steel intensive sectors like Housing for All, 100% electrification, piped water for all etc. Steel has several inherent advantages of durability, faster completion time, reduced environmental impact, and creation of a circular economy. Steel will have a crucial role to play in India’s rise to a $5 trillion economy.

Context:

The world’s richest countries’ education systems were assessed under The Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). India participated in the 2009 round but pulled out after being ranked 72nd among 73 countries. This time, The Ministry of Human Resource Development is preparing well in advance for 2021. Students from the Kendriya Vidyalayas across the country and students in Chandigarh are being trained to answer PISA-style questions.

Context:

From the level of 8.1% in the fourth quarter of 2017-18, quarterly GDP growth fell to 4.5% in the second quarter of 2019-20, a fall of 3.6 percentage points. This steady decline  had an adverse impact on employment and poverty reduction. With recession, job loss and companies winding up operations, 2019 has proved to be a bad year for India’s economy.
